We all remember the time this year started like it was just a few days ago. We can say that so much has happened, while at the same time feeling like not much has really gone down. One thing we’d all agree on is that the year felt like shit.

Year endings are about reflection.

We’d think about what went wrong and how we can do better, make a few resolutions and forget about them by Jan 5th. I’ve never been a resolution maker. But I’m a hardcore reflector. And I can safely say that what this year has taught me as a person is so much more than my last few years put together. So here’s thanking this year for being life-changing in more ways than one, and taking us to a brighter 2021.

  1. You taught me how to be comfortable with my thoughts and navigate the tough ones.
  2. You taught me how to appreciate the little things — sounds of leaves rustling, breathing in fresh air, warm sunlight on my skin.
  3. You taught me how to accept the fact that the people you’re closest to may not always be around and that it’s okay.
  4. Hence, you taught me how to form new relationships and maintain old ones.
  5. You taught me how to focus on the moment and make the most of it.
  6. You taught me, with much struggle, the process of discovering activities and ways of grounding myself in the moment.
  7. You somehow pushed me out of my comfort zone by throwing me into my deepest comfort zone.
  8. You taught me how to be patient and that good things do indeed take time.
  9. You taught me how to be more expressive, resilient, disciplined, solution-oriented and oh the many life skills.
  10. You taught me how to say no to things that don’t serve me and to be unapologetic when I need to disengage and disconnect.
  11. You taught me how to tackle hurdles gracefully and be intrinsically aware that the light is just around the corner.
  12. Most importantly, you made me me. Someone is who SO much stronger, confident, brave, resilient, appreciative, clear, introspective, curious and agile.

How has this year been for you? Take a few minutes to reflect!

I came across this beautiful free Year in Review template by Ness Labs, which I’d highly recommend you check out as a guide to positively review various aspects of your year. Access it here.

I wrote a bit about why humans tend to focus on the negative aspects of life and how we could overcome it while we were all learning to cope with the pandemic. Read it here.

Happy 2021!
