Life Lessons From Surf School

I went to surf school recently while on a short solo trip to a beach destination in India. The trainer I went with, a really easy-going guy and a great trainer, has been running his surf school in Goa for a few years now.

Over two sessions, I realised that pretty much most things taught in a surf class can metaphorically be used as life lessons. I had to quickly note down some of the tips, here they are!

  1. Ride the wave.
  2. When you see a big wave coming, walk into it head-on. Don’t let the wave break on your head.
  3. Take a deep breath, focus ahead, let go of the thoughts, your body knows what to do.
  4. Take it slow, no need to rush. You have all the time in the world.
  5. It’s okay if you fall, don’t panic. Just let go. You’ll be up on your feet in no time.
  6. A little bit of regular practice, and you’ll be riding smoothly in no time!
  7. Some practice on the shore prepares you better for the sea.

Which one do you relate with most?
